You?re going to run into a lot of women in pink, thousands of them in fact, on the sidewalks this weekend. Play nice if they?re blocking your path?they?re walking to raise money for breast cancer research.

This is the tenth year the Avon Walk has swung through Chicago. Last year, nearly 3,000 people took part in the event, which covers 39.3 miles (a marathon and a half) over the course of two days, beginning and ending in Soldier Field. They raised $6.1 million in 2011.

Cheering stations are set up along the route, including a number in Center Square territory. On Saturday, June 2, you can root on the walkers at:

  • Rockwell?s Grill (Mile 25.2), 4362 N. Rockwell St., peak viewing 2-6 p.m.
  • Montrose and Rockwell (Mile 25.6), 2-6 p.m.
  • Horner Park (Mile 26.2), 2741 W. Montrose Ave., 2:45-6:30 p.m. Horner Park doubles as the end point for Day 1 and the Wellness Village (in year?s past, Warren Park served this function), where walkers will camp out overnight.

On Sunday, June 3, if foot sore walkers can hit the trail for another 13 miles, you can haul yourself to a cheering station, clap your hands and shout ?You go girl!? before heading back to bed.

  • Found Chicago (Mile 0.3), 4100 N. Rockwell St., 7:30-8:30 a.m.
  • Orange Beautiful, 4658 N. Damen Ave., 8-8:45 a.m.
