Environmental Consciousness among Kids - Education - EzineMark

Once there was a planet that was very sad. The planet was well equipped with all modern equipments and spaceships one could ever imagine. The people of the plant were so busy in doing research and inventing new technical devices that they had contaminated the whole countryside. One day a little boy was walking along the roads of the planet saw a red flower in the cave. The flower was very sick- almost dying. So the boy carefully dug up the flower with roots and soil, and started searching for a place where the boy could replant the flower. He searched almost every corner of the planet, but failed to find a place because the whole planet was contaminated. Then the boy looked up at the sky and noticed the moon. It seemed to the boy that it may be the place where the plant could survive. Riding his spaceship, the boy reached the moon and planted the flower there.

The boy used to visit the moon every day to monitor the growth of the flower.

The flower was so well cared for, that it had soon germinated, giving birth to others, and these other flowers spread onto other flowers. This is why people say that whenever the little boy?s red flowers open up, the moon takes on a soft red sheen, like a warning light. It may also tell us that if we don?t look after our planet, a day will come when flowers will only be able to grow on the moon. Deforestation and global warming are the most common issues that often catch the attention of the debaters in this 21st century. To offer a secure future to our kids, it has now become to look after our mother nature; otherwise a day may come when we would be surrounded by all junk items and no trees.

The great leaders and educationists of the world have realized well the need of protecting the Mother Nature. In many countries, the environmental studies have been included as a subject in the schools. It is also the need of the hour to include these subjects in the schools. But it sometimes becomes difficult to make kids realize the importance of things. There are some ways through which we can involve our kids in environment protection works. Some of the ways are briefly discussed below:-

? ?Parents can try to set up a small garden in their balcony or backyard and introduce their kids to different plants in within their house only.
? ?Always try to involve your child in the gardening work so that they also can develop interest towards the nature.
? ?Develop games that involve activities related to the protection of nature. This will actively make kids involved and they will also enjoy the task.

Recent research has shown that more than any other factor, one thing does more to foster environmental consciousness than anything else; this is simply the act of getting children outdoors. As prominent environmental educator David Sobel eloquently stated, "One transcendent experience in nature is worth a thousand nature facts." It turns out that children, who have an immersive experience in nature between the ages of 5 and 10, foster a deep love of the environment that they carry with them their entire lives.
