Finding The Right Injury Lawyer | Reference and Education ? Typepad

Whether you have recently been hurt in a car or truck accident, burned or injured by chemical exposure, hurt on a construction site, or simply frustrated by an insurance company that has refused to pay benefits that are owed to you, a personal injury lawyer can help! The aim of this article is to help you understand how to select the best one.

The personal injury lawyer you choose should be more than just ?competent.? Your legal team should be ?remarkable?. Your personal injury lawyer should provide you with resources to deal with all aspects of your case, answer questions, prepare intensely for trial, try your case (if need be) and always be prepared to fight on your behalf.

A truly remarkable firm will work hard to exceed your expectations. They will pull out all stops to get you compensation to cover damages you have suffered, which may include but are not limited to, medical and surgical costs, lost work time and wages, anxiety, pain and suffering, car mileage and many out of pocket costs that you may face. A respected firm will follow up with clients promptly. Look for a lawyer who has a reputation for being tough but fair, smart and compassionate. A great law firm will make sure the client feels comfortable, and at the same time, they need to send a message, loud and clear, to insurance companies and liable parties that they mean business. The right firm will not be scared to throw their credentials around for the benefit of the client.

Accident and injury victims often find themselves in a state of a shock after a traumatic event and do not act swiftly enough. When a terrible event disrupts everything in your world, it?s only human nature to ?wait a bit? to get your head together before moving forward, but this approach may not be the best idea. Here?s why: Evidence from the accident or injury may get lost or even be deliberately destroyed in the hours and days after the accident. Witness recollections may grow foggier and more inaccurate as time passes after the incident. Even your own recollection of the event will give way to hazier, less accurate memories. And if you wait too long after the accident or injury, you may lose your ability to make a claim altogether, even if you have compelling evidence on your side, due to the ?statute of limitations?.

Each personal injury case is unique and needs to be looked at by an experienced injury lawyer. Choose a car accident lawyer that will give you the time and attention you deserve and need to win your case. Be sure they listen astutely to what you want and need and help you feel calm, comfortable, and taken care of throughout your case. Most injury law firms takes cases on a contingency basis. This means that until they win a trial verdict or reach a settlement, you do not owe anything.

Bahrain extends detention of rights campaigner held in rally

DUBAI (Reuters) - Bahrain has extended by seven days the detention of a leading human rights activist who was arrested on Monday during a demonstration in the Gulf Arab island kingdom, his lawyer said on Tuesday.

Sayed Yousif al-Muhafda, from the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights, was being investigated on charges of spreading false news on Twitter after he was arrested by police during a march in the capital Manama, Mohammed al-Jishi said.

All rallies and gatherings are banned in Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet and which has been in turmoil since pro-democracy protests led by its Shi'ite Muslim majority erupted last year.

Jishi told Reuters that Muhafda had not taken part in the demonstration. "He was there only as an observer," he said.

Muhafda was detained last month for a week on charges of taking part in an illegal gathering and an unauthorized march.

On Monday, police fired stun grenades to break up dozens of protesters and arrested about 25 people, including Muhafda, during rallies in the centre of Manama.

The Interior Ministry said on Twitter late on Monday that "police confronted illegal rallies and rioting in Manama and arrested a number of lawbreakers". It gave no further details.

Bahrain has stepped up efforts to end the unrest in recent months and several activists have been arrested or jailed for organizing or taking part in unlicensed protests.

The government also detained four men in October on charges of defaming the king on Twitter.

Earlier this month, Bahrain's opposition groups welcomed a call by the Crown Prince for dialogue. But meetings have not started and the unrest has continued.

On Sunday, Information Minister Samira Ibrahim bin Rajab criticized the opposition for "misusing" the call for dialogue, state news agency BNA reported.

BNA quoted Rajab as telling al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper that dialogue would start once "the opposition stops violence and relinquishes conditions" to engage in that dialogue.

The opposition had said they were prepared to meet without any pre-conditions, but called for the results of talks to be put to a referendum.

Wefaq, the leading opposition group in Bahrain, said in a statement on Sunday that "Bahrain suffers the toughest political crisis in its modern history."

"The opposition societies demanded the regime to respond to the calls from the international community to immediately start a fruitful and serious dialogue that can achieve the democratic transition and realize the people's aspirations," Wefaq said.

Bahrain's ruling Al-Khalifa family, who are Sunni Muslims, used martial law and help from Gulf neighbors to put down last year's uprising, but unrest has resumed.

The opposition says little progress has been made towards its demands for reforms including a parliament with full powers to legislate and form governments. Many Shi'ites complain of political and economic marginalization, a charge Bahrain denies.

Justice Reaches Settlement With Penguin On E-books

WASHINGTON ? The Justice Department announced Tuesday it has reached a settlement with Penguin Group (USA) Inc. in its lawsuit accusing the nation's largest book publishers of colluding with Apple Inc. to raise e-book prices on customers.

The settlement, if approved by a federal judge, leaves Apple and Holtzbrinck Publishers LLC, which does business as Macmillan, as the only defendants standing against the federal government's charges that Apple, the multimedia and computer giant, conspired with several publishers in the fall of 2009 to force e-book prices several dollars above the $9.99 charged by Amazon.com on its popular Kindle device.

The Justice Department, which sued in April, settled with Hachette Book Group, Inc., HarperCollins Publishers LLC and Simon & Schuster Inc. earlier this year. The trial is scheduled to begin in June.

"The proposed settlement with Penguin will be an important step toward undoing the harm caused by the publishers' anticompetitive conduct and restoring retail price competition so consumers can pay lower prices for Penguin's e-books," said Jamillia Ferris, chief of staff and counsel at the Justice Department's antitrust division.

Apple Inc. has said the government's accusation that it conspired with major book publishers to raise the price of e-books is untrue.

The proposed settlement was filed in federal court in New York.

The settlement had been expected by some industry observers as a means to simplify Penguin's impending merger with Random House, which is not a defendant in the case. That deal would create the world's largest publisher of consumer books.

Under the settlement, Penguin "will be prohibited for two years from entering into new agreements that constrain retailers' ability to offer discounts or other promotions to consumers to encourage the sale of the Penguin's e-books," and must submit to "a strong antitrust compliance program" that includes telling federal officials about any joint e-book ventures or any communications with other publishers, Justice Department officials said.

The Justice Department's lawsuit stems from agreements reached between major publishers and Apple in 2010 that allowed publishers to set their own prices for e-books, an effort to counter Amazon's deep discounts of best sellers. The department and 15 states said Apple and the publishers cost consumers more than $100 million in the past two years by adding $2 or $3, sometimes as much as $5, to the price of each e-book.

E-books are believed to comprise around 25-30 percent of total book sales.

Penguin Books is scheduled to merge with Random House, which is owned by German media company Bertelsmann. The resulting combination will have around a quarter of the market for consumer books. "Should the proposed joint venture proceed to consummation, the terms of Penguin's settlement will apply to it," the department said.

Last week, the European Union's competition watchdog accepted proposals by four publishers and Apple to end agreements that set retail prices for e-books ? a practice the EU feared violated competition rules. The agreement was legally binding on Hachette Livre; Harper Collins; Simon & Schuster; and Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck, which owns Macmillan. That deal was also binding on Penguin.

Autism Memoir Author Monica Holloway Sheds Light on ...

Los Angeles, CA, December 18, 2012 ?(PR.com)? Upon reports surfacing that Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza had autism or Asperger's syndrome, autism memoir author Monica Holloway publicly declared, ?I'm so worried that people who don't understand autism or Asperger?s syndrome will now associate it with violence, which couldn't be further from the truth. If he did have autism, there was clearly something else going on there. Period. Autism would not cause a person to commit such an unthinkable, evil act.?

An autism advocate and mother to a 15-year-old son with autism, Holloway says of the speculation that there?s a link between violence and autism or Asperger?s syndrome, ?We need to remember that Adam Lanza is one individual. My son and his many friends with Aspergers couldn't be violent if they tried. They are the most gentle and vulnerable people.?

Autism is a complex condition that affects a person?s ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by behavioral challenges. There is no research to support that there is a link between autism and planned violence.

?I love my son Wills so much, and I'm worried about the backlash for him socially and emotionally,? says Holloway. ?Because I was not educated on autism before I had Wills, I know how it feels to not understand. I had no idea what autism meant or was. I will speak to any school in this country to help shed light on autism.?

Holloway has offered to donate her autism memoir Cowboy & Wills to schools, law enforcement and first responders wanting to learn more about the human side of autism. To help with any misconceptions of autism, she also is available to speak to schools nationwide on autism and Asperger?s syndrome.

Says Holloway, ?There are so many troubling sorrows after such an unspeakable tragedy. Only healing now.?

Product Review: Glicco's Pasta Gravy | Flavorful World food and ...

Reviewer?s Note: Samples of the products discussed here were provided to me for reviewing purposes at no cost.

?Thick and Rich Flavor? promises the label on this product that recently arrived for review in the Flavorful World kitchen.? In claiming thus, the label tells no lies.

Having been burned by my share of runny tomato-based supermarket pasta sauces, I found the finely chunky texture of Glicco?s Pasta Gravy oddly comforting on first opening it.?The inviting aroma of tomato and herbs was enough to elicit a prompt spoonful tasted right from the jar.?When I took it, the first flavor notes to register on my tongue were of oregano and onion.

Intent on testing the product?s versatility in addition to its immediately encouraging taste, I used my sample to make three dishes.?My first outing consisted of lamb meatballs baked about halfway to doneness, then covered in Glicco?s Pasta Gravy and placed back into the oven to finish cooking.?Next, I moved on to a baked macaroni and cheese (extra sharp white cheddar and fontina) made with a b?chamel into which I stirred several tablespoons of the product.? After that it was all about spaghetti (selected for a more classic touch) and wilted fresh spinach, simmered in the sauce and topped with diced pork jowl bacon. In each case, not only did the product play nicely with all ingredients present, but with each dish it seemed that a different flavor element of came to the forefront of the gravy.?With the meatballs, the strength of the gravy?s onions lent depth to the dish.?The sweetness of creamy tomato ruled the macaroni and cheese.?When the gravy met my spaghetti, spinach, and bacon, herbal notes like oregano and basil came front and center.

Glicco?s Pasta Gravy seems more like something I would taste in the home of a friend or relative who cooks than something I would purchase and scoop out of a jar.?There may exist other pasta sauces that currently can claim greater brand recognition and are more widely available than Glicco?s.?However, based on my sampling and the sense of comfort I derived from enjoying something that tastes so homemade, I feel confident that I can go ahead and replace the word ?currently? in the preceding sentence with ?temporarily.?
